Leak Detection

Losing water and can’t find the source of the leak? Our team equipped with professional leak detection equipment is here to help! Take the guesswork out of leak detection and let our technicians keep you running smoothly all summer long.

What is Significant Water Loss?

It’s normal for a pool to lose a small amount of water to evaporation during the summer. This water loss is typically around 1/4 inch per day. If the water level drops more than the usual evaporation rate, there may be a leak.

A simple way to check whether it is a leak or just evaporation is by doing a 24 hour bucket test. Simply place a bucket on the pool steps and fill with water to the same level as your pool (you may have to put a rock in the bucket to keep it in place). After 24 hours, compare the water level in the bucket to the pool’s water level. If the water level in the pool drops more than the water level in the bucket, there may be a leak. If they are the same, its simply evaporation.

48 Hour Test

If you require a leak detection service call, we may ask you to perform a 48 hour test. This is a simple test that you can easily perform before the call that provides valuable information to our technicians. A 48 hour test helps our technicians to know where to start their investigation when they arrive at your pool.

  1. Fill the pool to the normal level and use tape to mark where the waterline is.
  2. Run the system for 24 hours and measure how far the water level dropped.
  3. Refill the pool back to the marked level and turn all equipment off.
  4. Leave the system off for 24 hours and measure how far the water level dropped.

If you lose more water with the system running, it is likely that the leak is somewhere in the plumbing/equipment. If there is no difference in the amount of water loss between the two 24 hour periods, the leak is likely in the pool liner/shell.

“Beechmount Pools is the best pool supply store and service team in KW, Period! Last Wednesday I found a serious leak under our deck which was causing a 1" a day waterleak from a grey fitting installed by the previous home owner (not a professional pool technician). I contacted Beechmount Pools Thursday morning and Heidi quickly scheduled a repair for Friday morning. Thomas had our pool fixed in under an hour with a heavy duty white fitting that would outlast me!”
